Abstract
This report of the clinical observations of the intussusception is to demonstrate a higher incidence in adult patients and a different type of the intussusception by different age gruop. Of the 173 total cases, 33 were under the age of two and the remaining 140 patients were older than two. In our experiences the intussusception is not an infant disease but it is more frequently seen in childhood and in adult life -as well.
Male and female ratio is about 7 to 3. The intussusception is reported to be occurred more frequently in summer time and this implicates an association of gastroenteritis which is also frequent in the season buyl we had more intussusception in winter instead.
The most prevailing type of intussusception in infant under the age of two was ileo-colic type(88.0 % ) and in this age group ileo-ileo-colic or ceco-colic types were rare and they were counted only two patients in each (6.0% of incidence respectively). Contrary to this in the group of age over two ileo-colic type was encountered in only 3 patients(1.4%) and the ceco-colic type was seen in 137 patients(98.6% of 140 cases). It is interesting to note that none of these childhood or adult intussusception had any proceeding disease to predispose the intussusception.
The surgical mortality was 2.9% and all mortalities were occurred in patients under the age of two.
